Yiftach Fehige

Professor for philosophy and theology, Institute for the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology, University of Toronto

Resident at the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften:
November 2019

Research topic at the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften:
»One versus The Many? On Scientific Monism and Religious Pluralism«

Project outline:
I work on pluralism in science and religion. Philosophy of science has taken a pluralistic turn recently. In discussions about the relationship between science and religion, however, scientific monism is still the default position. The aim of the research project is to confront theological discussions about religious pluralism with accounts of scientific pluralism. Religious pluralism as intended in the project means both diversity of religions and diversity within religions. Three phenomena of religious pluralism are of particular interest: the relationship between Judaism and Christianity, the ecclesiological diversity in Christianity, and the theological heterogeneity of the Bible. (Yiftach Fehige)

Research partner:
Yiftach Fehige follows an invitation of Heiko Schulz (Professor of Theology and Philosophy of Religion, Goethe University) and the University's research center »Theologie als Wissenschaft«.
