The project »Buber-Korrespondenzen digital« launched under the leadership of Christian Wiese, member of our board of directors
The Mainz Academy of Sciences and Literature has launched a long-term project entitled »Buber-Korrespondenzen Digital. Das Dialogische Prinzip in Martin Bubers Gelehrten- und Intellektuellennetzwerken im 20. Jahrhundert«. Over a period of 24 years, scholars will create a digital, (partially) annotated collection of Martin Buber's correspondence with important scholars and intellectuals of his time. This will include correspondence with Lou Andreas-Salomé, Leo Baeck, Rudolf Borchardt, Max Brod, Albert Einstein, Theodor Herzl, Hermann Hesse, Else Lasker-Schüler, Franz Rosenzweig, Gershom Scholem and Karl Wolfskehl.
The project is led by Christian Wiese, holder of the Martin Buber Chair in Jewish Thought and Philosophy, who has been associated with the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften at Goethe University both as a Goethe Fellow and, since 2017, as a member of our board of directors. Also collaborating on the project are Professor Martin Leiner, professor of systematic theology and ethics at the University of Jena, and Professor Abigail Gillman of Boston University.
