New Goethe Fellows appointed at the Institute: Roland Borgards, Sandra Seubert and Astrid Wallrabenstein

The president of Goethe University, Professor Birgitta Wolff, has appointed three further university professors to be Goethe Fellows at the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften - Roland Borgards, professor of contemporary German literature; Sandra Seubert, professor of political science; and Astrid Wallrabenstein, professor of law. Beginning in 2018, the three new fellows will contribute to the Institute for a period of up to four years.

The three scholars will each pursue their own projects at the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften with the aim of developing them into more extensive research proposals. Roland Borgards, who will assume a professorship for contemporary German literature at Goethe University in 2018, will be working in the field of »cultural and literary animal studies«. Sandra Seubert will be examining the question of citizenship in the European Union in her project »From Protection to Empowerment: Prospects for European Citizenship«. Astrid Wallrabenstein, professor of law, is carrying out research on »Migration and justice in the social state: welfare state concepts and their current challenges«.

The three new Goethe Fellows expand the existing group of scholars working at the Forschungskolleg. This group includes both international fellows as well as Iwo Amelung, professor of Chinese studies, Daniela Grunow, professor of sociology, and the Protestant theologian and professor of Jewish philosophy of religion, Christian Wiese, all three of whom who were appointed fellows in 2017.

With the Goethe Fellowships, Goethe University awards outstanding university scholars both the independence and the support to develop promising new research projects. The Forschungskolleg offers the scholars ideal working conditions for their research, combining space for retreat and concentration with opportunities for interesting, interdisciplinary and international conversations and collaborations.
