rnDie Jugend in den arabischen Ländern steht vor enormen wirtschaftlichen und politischen Herausforderungen. Einerseits ist der demographische Druck hoch: Jugendliche sind die größte Bevölkerungsgruppe in ihren jeweiligen Ländern. Der Arbeitsmarkt ist in der Regel nicht in der Lage, für alle Schulabgänger Arbeitsplätze zu stellen. Andererseits vollzieht die arabische Welt gerade einen Wandel, der geprägt ist von Revolutionen und jungen Demokratien. Das Zeitalter des Despoten scheint zu Ende zu sein. Was aber an dessen Stelle treten wird, ist noch unklar. Dabei stehen gemäßigte Kräfte jenen gegenüber, die sich für eine stärkere Rolle des Islam in Staat und Gesellschaft einsetzen.
