Sabine Andresen Elected New President of the German Society for the Protection of Children
Sabine Andresen was elected President of the German Society for the Protection of Children in May 2023. In this role, she has pledged to work towards the realization of the rights of children and young people: freedom from violence, social security, education, medical care, participation, and the right to a future in the face of the climate crisis.
Andresen has been a professor of social pedagogy and family research at Goethe University Frankfurt since 2011. Her work focuses on child poverty, sexual violence against children and young people and its reappraisal, intergenerational justice, and educational opportunities. Since 2020, she has been a Goethe Fellow at the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften, where she conducts research on experiences of violence in childhood and old age.
From 2016 to 2021, Andresen served as honorary chair of the German federal government’s independent commission on child sexual abuse. Against the backdrop of this commitment, she took the lead in setting the agenda for the Bad Homburg Conference 2022, which took place under the heading »Childhood and Violence« and which asked how can we overcome a culture of looking away.
We would like to congratulate Sabine Andresen on her election and wish her all the best in her role as president of the Society for the Protection of Children!
